Los Angeles Up-Cycled Bohemian Wedding

April 2, 2013

A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to collaborate with an incredible group of people. It all started with this big dream of mine to put together a styled shoot. Mid-February, I started pinning photos on Pinterest and simply wishing something like this could actually happen. With every photo I saw I was more and more inspired, and I wanted brides to be inspired as well. Soon I contacted my friend and fellow photographer Andrea and we decided to just go for it!

From the beginning we wanted this inspiration shoot to showcase an “Up-Cycled Bohemian” theme, with the idea that a wedding can be both beautifully eclectic and eco-friendly. We assembled a group of wedding professionals that shared the same passion for this concept and magic happened. Seriously. Every vendor has a vision of sustainability and a love for re-purposed goods. Our inspiration came from many things (worn wood, glass bottles, old turquoise trinkets) but none of us knew how incredible these things would come together with a backdrop like Silver Lake Farms. This tiny little flower farm hidden in the middle of Downtown Los Angeles is an incredible gem that we were absolutely blessed with.

The invites and save the dates were printed on real wood and the rings were all handmade (the men’s ring is actually a vintage spoon!)

Like I mentioned before, the shoot took place at Silver Lake Farms and it was such an amazingly diverse and beautiful backdrop. And can we just talk about this Claire Pettibone dress for a minute?! LOVE.

Our first couple, Jon and Erin, are married and are both photographers! I loved them so much for their willingness to let loose and have fun with our shoot… and I also plan on becoming bffs with Erin because she’s really cool.

Marcy and Cheryl did SUCH an incredible job with hair and makeup. I am forever indebted to them for sharing their amazing talent.

The cakes and cupcakes were one of my favorite features of the shoot. They are vegan and gluten free, AND the wonderful ladies at The Good Cookies & Beyond made them with ingredients from that morning’s farmers market… including the flowers.

The dishes and flatware were incredible. They added to our up-cycled theme amazingly as each piece was a vintage piece of art meticulously hunted down by Laura at Dish Wish. We also chose to use a ladder cake display and I could not be more excited about how it turned out. All of the furniture was from Archive Rentals and along with Nicole Alexandra Designs they styled the entire shoot.

Melissa and Armas were our second real-couple/ models and they were SO. CUTE. The two of them flirted the entire shoot and it made the rest of us giddy with lovey-dovey-ness

Tara at Silver Lake Farms is an artist and created the most incredible bouquets, headpieces, and center pieces ever. All of her flowers are locally and organically grown right at her home in Silver Lake.

This table made each and every one of us want to have a wedding. Even those that were married started secretly planning another wedding… a vow renewal maybe?

Tara at Silver Lake Farms was so hospitable and even offered to let us use her super cool turquoise truck. Before she even finished the offer I was jumping up and down saying YES! This next shot is one of my favorite of all time!

I’ll end this post on a really special note. This flower crown is made of wisteria flowers and, according to Tara, these flowers only bloom for a couple weeks out of the year. We were so lucky to have these amazing flowers available, and I feel the same amount of awe-inspired appreciation for each of the vendors that dedicated their time and talent to this shoot. I could just kiss each and every one of them. They are all SO talented and I will recommend them to any bride over and over again. I can’t WAIT to do this all over again!!!

Please let me know what you thought of this shoot and share the love with the other vendors as well! <3

OMG this shoot was GORGEOUS! I love the details, the florals, the images, the couple, EVERYTHING! This HAS to be published! Amazing job!!!

i absolutely loved it, it is so beautiful and creative, i think this way also can make it so easy and yet is a good practice for not being nervous on the actual wedding day, so the bride and groom can enjoy their own wedding as much as people are enjoying, so they can absorb every moment if the actual BIG day.

The women’s rings are both from N I X I N (link in post) and the men’s spoon ring from Dank Artistry. 🙂
